Of course we honor all healthcare decisions, so what is so unique about veterans? It is about history, potential past trauma, and social isolation that is often present. How good are we at treating both physical and mental health diagnoses that often co-occur? We also know that patience is a critical and therapeutic skill that directly influences patient outcomes and safety, especially with veterans. In this webinar we will explore more effective ways to serve and honor those who have served us.

As social workers, chaplains, and spiritual care counselors, we need to be knowledgeable and skillful in our work with veterans now at the end of their lives. In the medical world we hear people say that “children cannot be treated as small adults” and likewise, it is important to recognize the unique experiences and needs of our veterans. In this webinar we will explore ways to assist veterans and members of their circles of support to find meaning in life, dying and trauma, as well as learn specific counseling skills that are essential as we provide a more clinical and focused approach to trauma-informed care.

We all know that volunteers are essential members of the care team and that their contributions universally elevate overall care and patient/family satisfaction. That means we must not overlook the role of the volunteer with our veterans as they face the end of life and bereavement. In this webinar we will take a look at the unique role volunteers can play with veterans to include specific skills, interventions, and opportunities.
