One dictionary defines “distress” as “extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain.” Medicare is clear that we are to provide counseling and spiritual counseling “to assist the patient and family in minimizing the stress and problems that arise from the terminal illness, related conditions, and the dying process.” It is also clear that supportive interventions and counseling are two very different interventions requiring very different skill sets. This webinar will explore the use of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness counseling to assess and specifically address anxiety, distress, and associated suffering.
